(Older versions worked with Excel 2003, but we don’t test this any more.) On Mac OS X, it should work using Excel for Mac 2011 with any version of OS X newer than 10.7.

On Windows, OpenSolver should work with Excel 2007 and later we test it on 32 and 64 bit Windows 7/10 in Excel 2010/2013/2016. Both versions are available for Mac and Windows. If the problem persists and it is consistent, I suggest that you upload an Excel file (redacted) that demonstrates the problem to a file-sharing website, and post the download URL in a response here.OpenSolver comes in two versions, a simpler “linear” version and an “advanced” (non-linear) version with support for more solvers, including non-linear solvers. In Excel 2010, I click Formulas > Error Checking > Circular References on the "ribbon". And do an "error check" to be sure there are no circular references anywhere in the workbook, even if they are unrelated to the cells affected by Solver. Be sure that Iterative calculation is disabled. On second thought, perhaps that might confuse Solver, since you are seeking a minimum. Nevertheless, I would not expect Solver to report "found a solution". The point is: in that case, sometimes Excel aborts the recalculation cycle, leaving some cells in an inconsistent state. What if Iterative calculation is enabled, and there is a complex set of circular references anywhere in the Excel file? Does that impact Solver? What if the type of the data is text, whether or not the cell format is numeric? Solver reports an error, not "found a solution".ģ. What if Manual calculation mode is set?
